Securing the smartphone with Fieldbook Secure

Want to feel totally secure with your smartphone? French firms Ercom (mobile test) and Logic Instrument (device maker) have announced they are collaborating on introducing “a complete secure smartphone solution” – ‘Fieldbook Secure’ is the name.

Doubtless it will generate interest – everyone wants secure communication for voice, messaging and data traffic, after all.
The companies claim Fieldbook Secure’s “fast octa-core processor with 1.7GHz runs even demanding business applications” on Android “Lollipop” 5.0.
Features include:
4G LTE for fast mobile data access
GPS for navigation
13Mp camera for images and videos
6-inch multi-touch screen with 1,080 x 1,920-pixel resolution
enhanced backlight for readability in bright outdoor environments.
Physical security is provided with IP68 certification, making it desert- and water-proof, according to the companies, and they state that it can withstand falls from up to 1m.
The “Cryptosmart-Mobile Suite” comes installed on the Fieldbook F1 to protect against loss or theft of the device, eavesdropping or logical intrusion.
The suite secures mobiles for all voice, data, mail, SMS on all networks, including GPRS, Edge, 3G, LTE, HSDPA, Wi-Fi, and Satellite, using security software and a patented encryption technology embedded in a smartcard that has an EAL5+ certified chip and certified EAL4+ applet.
The device is being marketed alongside Cryptosmart-Gateway, which the companies claim enables secure communications within an organisation without the need for secure phones at every desk.
The suite also provides “strong authentication, secure lock screen, transparent local encryption of all user data, remote wipe, and a local firewall” according to the companies.
